What defines you as a teacher in today’s Digital Age?

With AI generated tools and technologies quickly dominating the lifestyles in schools as well as at home- it is the teachers’, parents’ and guardians’ responsibility to regulate the learning process of every willing student. As educators, they, too, have to be trained on the “right use”, relevance, ethics and correct manner of utilising these means in shaping the emotional, intellectual, social development of the next generation.

Overview:

Educators need to urgently keep in step in today’s diverse and technologically driven society.

Computer related terminologies are quickly easing their way to the popular and common lifestyle- and not too far off, in the education scene. Coding, python, generative AI, UX is becoming a household and common lingo in this generation, regardless \\if an individual is into computers or not.

Related information, that was only understood by a few ten years ago, is readily accessible by many at their fingertips. Interestingly, even the computers themselves can already teach about what and who they are.

A few years from now- we can expect that 90% of humanity will be embraced by these realities, if not live with it. In one way or the other, job opportunities will incorporate a certain degree of knowledge in computing and computer logic. It is imperative for the younger generation of today to learn technology-based information as a foundation for their chosen careers in the future.

Further, teaching these computer related concepts to students, as young as 6 years old (as an enrichment subject) to K12 or higher studies (as a mainstream subject) will prepare them to use the knowledge in increasing their own classroom performance, enhancing their learning experiences helping them streamline their own academic tasks- such as engaging classroom presentations, problem solving skills and logic etc or prepare them well for a career in Cybersecurity, Cyber Forensics, Gaming, System Development and Support and many others.

It goes without saying that the teachers, themselves, both novice and advanced in computer skills- will upgrade their skills in methods of teaching and genuinely assess student capabilities and focus on specific improvement.

As educators, it is highly imperative that the responsibility of using these tools and technologies within the confines of decency and honesty lies on them.

The programme widely emphasises the advocacy in maintaining the ethics, education integrity and morals to strictly delineate between the proper use and misuse of these technological tools for the betterment and improvement of the social environment as a whole.

Classes will be conducted over 8 weeks for part time study. Students meet with the instructor once a week for 3 hours per session.
