One of the most coveted qualifications, the Cambridge International Certificate in Teaching and Learning (CICTL) provides an ideal framework for anyone preparing for, or developing, their teaching or training role, whether they are full or part-time or already in teaching and wishing to enhance and update skills and knowledge. It helps students develop and deliver a range of learning and development activities, eventually leading to an improvement in the quality and outcome of teaching

Course Content:

Spread across three clear areas, the programme also provides transferable skills that can be used in any subject area or level of education and covers a range of different teaching and learning styles applicable to different learning needs. The course contains lectures, tutorials, forum discussion, classroom practice & assignments.

UNIT-1

  • Orientation on learning & teaching concepts
  • Review teaching methods & learning activities
  • Understanding purposes of assessment
  • Evaluate the impact of learning on practice

UNIT-2

  • Explore lesson structures and design
  • Understand differentiation and scaffolding
  • Apply methods of formative assessment
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the lesson

UNIT-3

  • Integrate discovered ideas from Units 1 & 2
  • Facilitate learners’ involvement
  • Identify strengths and areas for development

Admission Criteria

Candidate:

  • is 18 years old and above.
  • has completed Diploma or Degree or Higher in any Discipline.
  • has GCE ‘O’ Levels with credit in English; or with English language competence comparable to Level B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). (*or complete in-house English Language Proficiency Test if none)
  • be a full- or part-time teacher, teaching in an educational institution over a full academic year, for a minimum of 24 weeks and a minimum of 6 hours per week; or have past teaching experience of a minimum of 6 months (*if others, please specify and will be assessed upon interview).
  • has regular support of at least one experienced, trusted colleague who understands the essential principles that underpin this qualification and can provide helpful advice and observations.
  • teaches a group with a minimum of 6 learners.
  • is responsible for planning and facilitating the learning activities of their learners.

  • engage with the principles and concepts of teaching and learning to improve their effectiveness as teachers
  • gain the knowledge, skills and understanding to support an inclusive approach to teaching and learning
  • use opportunities to try something new in their classroom practice
  • engage with colleagues to improve professional knowledge and practice
  • develop a reflective approach to the development of their professional practice
  • progress their teaching career.

Assessment

  • Assignment-based
  • Completed ePortfolio of evidence on candidate’s practice, learning and reflection.
  • Portfolio evidence includes (with LO’s indicated in the Cambridge Guide Interactive):
    • observing a colleague’s classroom practice
    • planning, teaching, learning and assessment materials that arise naturally out of the teaching process
    • feedback from mentor, colleagues, students and others
    • the candidate’s own reflections on their learning and practice.
  • Submitted to a team of Cambridge International examiners via PDQ Connect portal.

Course Duration

  • 4 Months
  • Part time
  • 2 Sessions per week
  • 4 hours per session (*include candidate consultations)

Graduation

Upon passing, students will be awarded the Cambridge International Certificate in Teaching and Learning, awarded by the Cambridge Assessment International Education, UK.

Progression

PDQ CICTL (Level 5) with a Pass or higher mark, allows you to be eligible to progress to Cambridge International DIPLOMA in Teaching & Learning (CIDTL, Level 7). The credits earned can be used to pursue higher education courses from Anglia Ruskin University. Programmes include MBA, MA & PGCE, MA.
